On Monday, Pune police, investigating the case of

a 17-year-old allegedly driving under the influence and running over

two individuals, accused the teenager’s family of trying to conceal the incident.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar announced the arrest of

Dr. Ajay Taware, head of the Forensic Medicine Department at Sasoon General Hospital, Dr. Shrihari Harnoor,

Chief Medical Officer of the government hospital, and another staff member.

They allegedly attempted to tamper with evidence by discarding

the teen’s blood sample and replacing it due to pressure from the teen’s family.

“According to the police, Dr. Harnoor collected the minor’s blood samples,

noting the teenager was intoxicated at the time of the accident,

and discarded them in a garbage dump at Sasoon Hospital.

Later, they took another person’s blood sample and

Dr. Taware’s, labeling it with the minor’s name before sending it to the forensic lab.”

Around 11 AM on May 19, Dr. Harnoor threw the teenager’s blood sample in the garbage at Sasoon Hospital and collected another person’s sample, sending it to the forensic lab. Commissioner Amitesh Kumar revealed that Dr. Harnoor acted on instructions from HOD Ajay Taware. Since they tampered with the minor’s blood samples, the report on Sunday showed no traces of alcohol. However, CCTV footage from that night captured the minor drinking with friends at a bar.
